Date objects in Visual Smalltalk represent the date in an unambiguous format.  Applications which use the standard Date and TimeStamp classes  will function correctly in the next century.  See our year 2000 statement for more information.

As strings, dates may include a 2 digit abbreviation or a full 4 digit year.  Date objects created from user entry, read from a string, displayed, or printed in a 2 digit year format have the potential for misinterpretation.  The links below offer background, code samples, and patches users may apply for applications that use 2 digit date strings.

Millennium interpretation for Date instances created from a 2 digit year string in VisualSmalltalk
Ensure Dates created from a string interpret the century correctly.  This appears as a patch in VisualSmalltalk 3.1.2c and later.
Show a Date with a 4 digit year by default
Optionally change Date instances to print with a 4 digit year by default.
Subpanes/V CPDateEditor patch
This add-on product date control may imply the wrong century for a 2 digit year entry.
